Controversy Surrounding 'Adipurush': Dipika Chikhlia Reflects on Actors' Connection to Characters
12 June: Dipika Chikhlia, the actress who famously portrayed the character of Sita in Ramanand Sagar's 'Ramayan,' has recently shared her thoughts on the controversy surrounding 'Adipurush' director Om Raut and actress Kriti Sanon. In her statement, Dipika expressed her belief that there is a significant problem with actors of this generation, as they often fail to truly connect with their characters and understand the emotions involved.
Dipika emphasized that for many actors today, Ramayana may have just been a film, lacking a spiritual connection. She pointed out that in today's era, kissing or hugging someone is often considered a sweet gesture, but Kriti Sanon, being an actress of the present generation, may not have thought of herself as Sita Ji and understood the depth of the character. Dipika highlighted that for her, playing the role of Sita was a deeply spiritual experience, whereas modern-day actresses tend to view it as just another role, often moving on without much thought or emotional attachment once the project is over.
Reflecting on the filming of 'Ramayan,' Dipika shared that no one dared to call them by their names on set, and people would come and touch their feet as a mark of respect. She described that it was a different era, where they were not seen merely as actors but were revered like gods. Physical gestures like hugs or kisses were out of the question. Dipika contrasted this with the possibility that the actors in 'Adipurush' might get caught up in their next projects after the film's release and potentially forget about their characters, something that she and her fellow actors in 'Ramayan' never experienced. They were treated with utmost reverence, as if they were divine beings who had descended to Earth.
In conclusion, Dipika Chikhlia expressed her concern about the lack of emotional connection and understanding of character among actors of this generation. She emphasized the deep respect and reverence they received during the filming of 'Ramayan' and the importance of not doing anything that would hurt people's sentiments.
'Adipurush,' starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, is scheduled for release on June 16.
